Christchurch
So Christchurch, a very flat city.  Thankfully.  I got into Christchurch pretty late on February 8, so I just went to my hostel near the center of the city.  On the 9th I walked down to Cathedral Square, where there is a very old church.  Christchurch is also known as the Garden City, so of course I went to the Botanical Gardens too.  I only stayed in Christchurch until the 10th, when I took the train to Dunedin.  By coincidence, it was the last train running from Christchurch to Invercargil, so the train was pretty packed.  Anyway...
At the cathedral, you can pay NZ$2 to climb up the 133 steps of the steeple to a viewing platform.  You get great views of Christchurch!
So then I walked down the 133 stairs to the ground turned a bit, and promptly got lost.  Some lady on the street noticed that I looked a bit lost and turned me around.  So, note to self, people in New Zealand are perceptive, and nice!  So anyway, this is the Victory Arch, commemorating those that fought in World Wars One and Two.
Then I went to the Botanical Gardens, which are just along the street that you get on by going under the Arch.  A pond in the Botanical Gardens.  I'm not sure why there's a discoball in the middle...
There was a bonzai garden inside the Botanical Gardens.  I had a bonzai tree once, it died. :(  The Avon River runs right through the Gardens, and you can get a man to punt you along the river.  How English!
Next stop:  Dunedin.
