Picton |
Picton is a little town on the northern end of the South Island of New Zealand. I got into Picton on the Interislander ferry that runs across Cook Strait from Wellington to Picton. So I took the ferry on 7 February and stayed in Picton that night. Quaint little town, but not a whole lot to do there. It's quite popular though, as it is situated in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds and grape growing/wine making has become popular in the area recently. I took the train out of Picton on 8 February. |

Picton Harbor. Unfortunately it was cloudy the day I got into Picton, but I heard they have an unusually high number of sunny days compared with the rest of New Zealand. |

One of the many commemorations to Captain James Cook who explored the coast of New Zealand in the late 1700's. |

A view of Queen Charlote Sound, which Picton is situated in. I heard there is a very nice hiking track along this sound. |

A view from the train from Picton to Christchurch. Very pastoral outside Picton. I'm surprized this picture didn't capture any sheep. |

Ah, black sand beaches and beautiful country and crashing waves. I could definitely get used to this! |
