ARE YOU REALLY A CHRISTIAN?

  1. In John 14:12 Jesus told his followers they would do works even greater than his. He did not put himself on a pedestal. He asked people to look to god, not to him.
  2. In Matthew 16:27 he explained that you will be judged on your works, not your faith.
  3. He mocked elaborate priestly garb in Matthew 23:5.
  4. In Matthew 21:12 Jesus chased those selling doves from the temple.
  5. In Matthew 25:40 he warned that the way you treated the least of your brothers would be way you would be judged.
What would Jesus make of a modern televangelist with his emphasis faith without works, on money, elaborate costumes, religious trinkets and persecution of homosexuals? Jesus said "You are your brothers' keeper." He urged people to live a simple lifestyle that puts minimal stress on the environment. Traditional Christianity warned people it was unwise to make material goods the center of your life. See Matthew 6:19. However, the charismatic movement urges centering your life around an expectation of abundant earthly wealth caused by gaining special favor with God. Even Christians are alarmed about this heresy. The church is hypocritical. It preaches poverty while its leaders live in opulence

The Church:
To the church a church is a big fancy building, fed by a building fund, used to hold weekly meetings, which are held to increase the building fund. A staff whose job is to hold the existing members and draw in more members to support the building fund. A pulpit is used to scare the members into following harsh and primitive Hebrew laws, keep them from seeking knowledge outside the particular organization, and give more money to the building fund. Seldom, if ever, some money is diverted from the building fund to present a token image of charity, which is aimed at attracting new members to increase the building fund.

The Bible:
No building, and no building fund. A group of like-minded people who live in a communal setting and sacrifice all physical belongings to support a work totally devoted to charity. There is a staff, whose job is to feed and clothe the poor and
infirmed, and to perform miracles. One basic law, love for one another, is the
guiding principle.

The Church:
The church should follow whatever laws the leaders of that particular church decide should be enforced. These laws are to be enforced without regard to whether they have any biblical authority.

The Bible:
The laws of the Old Testament were given to the Nation of Israel only, are oppressive and impossible to follow, and are replaced with one prime commandment and four minor laws.

The Church:
Prayer is encouraged in all public venues and practiced at all church oriented functions.

The Bible:
Prayer is private. Public prayer is condemned. Repeated prayer is vain and unnecessary.

Public Prayer

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Private Prayer

Matthew 6: 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
