February 5 ---Finished Presidential and Congressional Reconstruction; Next Compromise of 1877, 19th Century Mindset and Socialization, and Industrialization. February 8 ---19th Century mindset continued; the socialization process; and the Collaborative assignment: Please read Slave Reparations, then break out into groups of 3-5 and be prepare to engage in a full class discussion. February 13-15 ---In light of the "lively" discussion on Slave Reparations, I will conduct my lecture on "Affirmative Action." This is an "interactive exercise," hence all students must be present and you will be responsible for the rationale in support for the "contemporary" arguments on slave reparations: Compensatory Justice, Social Contract, Race/Gender Relevance, Qualitative vs. Quantative Analysis. The definitions for these arguments are not available on the website...so please attend and participate class! February 20 ---Note: Before we begin Industrialization, a 10-15 question scantron quiz on Executive and Congresstional Reconstruction, plus the 19th Century mindsets will be administered on February 20 ---Industrialization via Grangers, Populist, and Progressives February 27: Video: Building the Transcontinental Railroad February 29: ---Round-Table discussion for Tuesday, February 27. Please familiarize yourself with the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and the Haymarket Riot of 1886. You can use any of the reading sources assigned in class (Tindall, Digital History, etc.) March 4 ---Early 20th Century and the democratization of America: Constitutional and Legislative reforms.
