| To gain this award you will be tested on the following skills and knowledge: Equipment: knowledge, care and proper use to be displayed. q Harnesses – types, use and limitations, fitting, buckles q Helmets – types, use and limitations, fitting q Shoes - types, use and limitations, fitting, special care q Figure of Eight and Tube type belay devices - types, use and limitations q Karabiners - types, use and limitations q Ropes - types, use and limitations Knots: tying and appropriate use q Figure 8 on a bite q Figure 8 follow through q Overhand Skills: proper and disciplined performance to be displayed. q Top-rope belaying q Sport lead climbing belaying q Body belaying on steep ground q Abseiling, single-pitch with belay from instructor q Basic climbing styles and techniques for top-rope climbing q Correct belayed descent from top-rope climb. |
