Crafter's Guide

As the holds grew and began to specialize Craft Halls were created.  Each Hall had one Master Craftman, the person to whom all turned to for knowledge and leadership.  All others were beneath him/her, the masters, journeymen or apprentice in their various crafts.   The Craft Master and his Masters were the people who assigned masters, and journeymen and/or apprentice to various Holds and Weyrs, decided on the advancement of an apprentice to journeyman and accepted new apprentice to the Craft Halls.  The Masters aged.   Those who had Mastered their craft had to being considered to take the place of an aging Masters.  These were the seniors in their crafts.  With knowledge as extensive and, at times, more then the Master of the Craft Hall, these Masters were sent far and wide to represent the CraftHall's Master.  Gradually the  Journeymen/women began to specialize in their own crafts and became Masters in their specialities.  This was most true in the Healer's Hall where the medical field became more and more specialized with Master Herbist, Master Surgeons, Master Mind Healers and so forth.   Ship builders began to specialize in the various size of the crafts they built.

One note:  Masters can take on an apprentice out of the Craft Hall.  Journeymen cannot. 

REMEMBER:

There will be only one Craft Master in your Craft.  You may reach the Mastery level in your Craft and be called a Master, but you will always answer to the Master Crafter.  There are Masters of a specialty for that particular craft, but, unless there are no other Craft Masters on Pern in the time period world which we have created and are writing, you can not advance to Craft Master, just Master.

You may create logical specialties for mastering in your selected craft.  If uncertain please email the BoD for instructions.
