Detailed Description

Physical- Pathim is not remarkable in appearance.  Her features leave a lot to be desired.  The Harper's hair is perhaps her only striking feature.  She has a very full head of long brown hair with a reddish glow, flowing to her waist that tends to become wild in the dampness around the ocean.  Standing 5' 5" she does not look as if she would have the voice to carry over a gathering.  Freckles cover her body and she has accepted the fact that she will never tan deep enough to cover up her freckles.  Her green eyes are kind.  Pathim's nose is narrow and straight.  Her chin receeds just a tad, so that her nose becomes more noticable.  Add to that the fact that she is slightly bucktooth and it is understandable why none of the boys ever took notice of this young woman.  Perhaps to their lost.  The Harper wears trousers generally, but on those occasions when she preforms for a gather she will dress in a long flowing skirt with a soft peasant blouse.  Her hands are long fingered almost too large for her smaller body, but they allow her to play any instrument.

Emotional- Pathim's heart is perhaps too kind.  When she comes upon someone angry who abuses her verbally she immediately thinks the poor person is having a bad day.  She sees beauty is most everything.  The oddest of flowers, the uglest of beast, the plainest of designs.  Yet she does not make friends readily or talk about the things she likes or dislikes.  It is as if all the things that make her up are locked inside her, stewing around and unable to come out... until she bursts into song when alone, creating haunting melodies.  Perhaps the day will come when someone will discover her, see beyond the outer Pathim to the Pathim inside of her.  The one so filled with love.

Brief History: Raised by a single mother who was more interested in bedding the next man then her only child, Pathim had to be the parent to her mother.  Her life became the serious business of surviving instead of that of a normal child.  From three turns up she cooked her own meals and her mothers.  Kept from the normal classes Pathim heard the teaching songs the harpers taught other children sang only in bits and pieces.  She began to make up in the parts she didn't know, filling in and completing the songs.  Of course they were wrong.  When Pathim was fourteen turns she was sitting mending one of her mother's old dress to wear herself.  As she sewed she sang.

A Journeyman Harper walking the long road between Harthfelt and Victory stopped to remove a stone from his boot.  As he bent down he thought he must have become lightheaded for he heard the sweetest voice making a mess out of one of the basic songs he taught young children.  The words were all wrong.  The notes were sung perfectly.  Standing up the harper realize that indeed someone was singing.  When the youngster paused for a moment the harper sang out the correct words.  Surprisingly his words were sung back to him correctly.  He sang the next line and again he was copied prefectly.  With a smile on his face the harper went to find this wonderful voice to bring her to Harper Hall for training.  What he found was a miserable looking little mouse of a girl with hair that looked as if it wanted to catch on fire.

Since then Pathim has studied and feasted on the knowledge at Harper's Hall.  On 01.28 in the fourth turn after the end of the 18 Pass Pathim walked the tables ending her Apprenticeship.  At present she is assigned to Victory Weyr.

Abilities/Strengths/Weaknesses: What seems straight forward to most people is beyond comprehension to Pathim.  She can not understand why people do the things they do.  If they cheat on something she can't understand why.  Why not just tell the truth?  Why not just do things right?   Why tease someone?  She just can't comprehend why people want to hurt others.  Don't they realize how that feels?  Pathim has the talent of making everyone she meets feel good, usually.  This stems from the fact that she sees everyone equally.  In her world, the inter-world of her mind, there are no lords or ladies, no drudges.  Everyone is the same.  Looking at her one would not think she had the voice to carry over a gather, but when she sang all conversation ceased.  Not only did she sing the notes well but she put feeling into each word.  When she sang of the old-timers coming forward in time leaving their lives behind the audience wept for the now long dead riders.  With a heart too soft for the reality in the world Pathim is often hurt.

Crafters

Craft: Harper
Rank: Journeywoman
Specialty: Voice
Strength/Weaknesses: Although Pathim has the purest of voices she is not so great on the instrumental part of Harping.  In fact she has never quite conquered drums.  Passable on most other instruments the drum has been her nemisis. The first time she beat on a drum the Harper sent her out of the room to think about the mess she had made out of a simple timing beat.  That only increased her fear of drumming.
