Mudvayne's guitarist (Greg Tribbett) and Martinie both play their instruments tuned in C—Tribbett’s guitars are tuned, low to high, C G C F A D, while Martinie’s basses are tuned, low to high, G C G C F. Both favor DR strings. “You’ve got two sets of octaves,” Martinie says of his bass tuning, “so your shapes change, as far as the chords that you play. Also, the placement of harmonics is different, so you can do different combinations that are slightly unnatural sounding.”
