Hale County Page Two
These are some pix connected to Rev. John DuBois (1798-1884), Methodist minister, cotton gin maker, inventor, and writer.
This home, located near the Hale County courthouse in Greensboro, was home during the 1840s and 1850s to Rev. John, his wife Louisa, and their eight children. It is currently being restored.
Rev. John came to the Greensboro area around 1834 and was licensed to preach about that time. A local preacher, Rev. DuBois preached, performed weddings and funerals and similar tasks whenever the circuit rider was unavailable. Rev. DuBois' services were performed at various churches in present-day Greene, Hale, Perry, and Autauga Counties. This church, now home to the St. Mathew AME Church in Greensboro, was Rev. John's "home church" until a new one was built.
