Higidie Bigidie Bumble Bee
A Getting To Know You Game
(pronounced hig-eh-dee big-eh-dee) You sit in a circle and sing the following:
"Higidie Bigidie Bumble Bee won't you say your name for me?"
While doing this you clap this way:
Higidie: clap on you legs
Bigidie: clap your hands
Bumble: snap your fingers
Bee: clap on your legs
Won't you: clap your hands
say your: snap your fingers
name for: clap on your legs
me: clap your hands

Then the first person says "My name is _____"  and the group says " Hi,___!".  You repeat until you've gone around the whole circle.  It's funny because they start serious but someone will always start being silly for some reason and it gets funnier with every girl/leader after that.  By the time you're done, the new girl(s) will know who everyone else is and kind of get a hint at the personalities of the troop.
Islands
A different twist on musical chairs

Equipment needed:  newspaper
Spread out several sheets of newspaper scattered on the floor of the playing area.  These are the islands.  Players are to roam around the playing area until the leader yells "shark".  Then the players must get on an Island, their feet can't touch the floor.  At another signal they roam the playing area again and the leader takes away one of the Islands.  Play continues until only one Island is left.  It's great fun to see lots of girls crammed onto one sheet of paper.  Be sure to tell them that cooperation is the key to the game.

Jail
A game to learn the promise
One player is IT and someone, usually a leader is the JAILER.  This is a game of tag, when IT catches you, you go to the Jailer and have to recite your promise to get out of jail.  A very simple game, good for the beginning of the year.  Please remember to keep safety in mind.
