Invisible Voices:  Poetry by the Disappeared

Life is a journey that never stops
whether you walk, skip, hop or trip -
there's always time to take a dip.
While swimming in April, don't fear the rain,
you're already wet, and there's no one to blame.
If seen, don't be ashamed -
it's not unnatural, that's just how we're trained.
Cookie cutter presses on the assembly line floor.
jam up the gears and even the score.
When the system tries to slow you
don't let it take control.
Fighting back to preserve the flow.
Changing the world with just your glow.
The brightness of man starting to show.
Deal back blows that have been felt,
for the machine may begin to melt.
Cookie cutter presses on the assembly line floor,
jam up the gears and even the score.
Strike back the beast that bit you.
Tooth for tooth is the oldest truth,
the ways of man before his youth.
Hang the king for the knave he is,
Lording over that others should slave.
With the Hydra slain, the river is saved,
Burn it's ashes that none remain.
Only then is freedom regained.

THE DISAPPEARED

The voice not heard is a
face not seen in the spring
she cried for her people
oppressed, her husband broken,
her children starved

She called for her children her husband
her people to stand up to rise up
to walk out to shout no
more! and she disappeared
into the shadow of the man

Where the fat crows feed on the fattened
seeds of the people's bitter harvest
there is a sliver of silver on the sidewalk
where her final scream fell
hear the news hard now

She is the statistic not spoken.
