If you could meet and spend a day with any one person, who would it be and why?
---------------------------------------------------------

Wow, there are so many of these people for me. What may shock some people is that none of them are rock or movie stars. None of them were even alive in my life time! Some of them, in fact, weren't even alive in the same century I was born in. My list includes Rasputin, Queen Elizabeth, Oliver Cromwell, Hitler, Vlad, Louis XIV, Cleopatra, King Tut, Khan, ... I think you get the point!! Any one of these people would be absolutely awe-inspiring! There are authors upon authors that I would love to meet and a select few faces from the pop culture merry-go-round of my own time, but I would specifically choose one of the figures I've listed above. But, the question is, who exactly? Rasputin and Queen Elizabeth are right up there at the top because I'm certain it
would be one of them... The question is, could I make it for a day in Queen Elizabeth's presence without being consigned to some sort of punishment? I doubt it. By the end of the day there's no doubt that she would have me firmly under her heel. But would I be able to stand Rasputin's flock of women? I doubt it. If I were to spend a day with any of the people I would truly want to, I'd either be executed, imprisoned or something worse!! If, however, they were being brought into -my- time, or some sort of temporal anomaly where it would be semi-neutral... I have -no- idea what I would say in that type of stale situation. But at least I would be safe from their tyranny, maybe... Or, what would it be like to meet them during childhood when they were without their great gobs and gobs of power?? What would it have been like to know Elizabeth before she mutated into the Virgin Queen? Rasputin, poor little pastoral drunken Rasputin would have merely disgusted me as a younger man... But Elizabeth... Wow. Yes, I think she would be my choice above all else. I would want to meet Queen Elizabeth before the idea of her own monochratic power was fully rooted in her being. What was she like before the mask of indifference settled over her features? Who was she when she could still worry about life and death openly, without ridicule, without fearing her country's downfall in her own moment of weakness? It's my fondest wish to eat breakfast with an Elizabeth who could sleep in if she so wished... An Elizabeth who didn't have advisors and courtiers and the entire world at large practically knocking at her bedroom door at all hours. An Elizabeth who still knew privacy, who could smile at a handsome man without inflicting jealousies that could lead to war. What sort of woman is a Queen? We're all aware of what sort of Queen she was... But what about Elizabeth? (1-26-02)
