QUEEN CREEK Bouldering

The first thing we noticed at the PBC was all the gear! Every big-name vendor seemed to have a booth there - even Patagonia and The North Face... ... pretty funny to see down parkas and alpine equipment in the middle of a desert. We were equally amazed to see how well run it was. Being the 19th annual event, we were sure they'd have it kinda together by now... but it must be hard to keep that many people in spandex organized!

Oak Flat Campground, Queen Creek Canyon, AZ

Several weeks later... Not registering that the Oak Flat Campground was in Tonto National Forest (trust us, there's not a tree to be had there!), we trundled on out to Queen Creek incredibly StupidEarly one fine Saturday morning. Unable to find the area we wanted to try, we walked around for a while looking pretty dorky - and reluctantly pulled out our guidebook to see where all the climbs had gone off to.

We finally stumbled upon our intended area, set up some anchors, and proceeded to revel in the fact that we had the whole place to ourselves. After a full and glorious day, we packed up and headed back to the truck, stopping only to chat with a nice forest ranger, who, despite his niceness, gave us a ticket for being on 'federal land closed for public safety'. Yikes!

We spent a lovely weekend out there recently, camping and climbing our little hearts out. Our newest photos are now being scanned - and appropriately doctored to make us look as cool as the pros.
