The beach was pretty, even when overcast

Ah, another overcast day in San Sebastian. As before, we woke up lazily and stayed in bed reading and typing journals (I was rushing to finish my book so Glenn would have something to read). I finally finished it off around 11:30am, and got ready for the day. We left the hostel around 12:30pm, on the prowl for lunch.

We walked down to find the cafe with the cheap lunch menu that our hostess kept telling us about, but when we got to the described location, found only the more expensive deals. By then we were pretty hungry, so we decided to pick a place and just eat. We sat down near the door for the cool breeze, and the bartender promptly closed it! That was ok though. We ordered the menu of the day, and each of us had the paella as a first course, and I had chicken as my main meal.

The paella came out within seconds of ordering it, and was not the color we were accustomed to. Also, we found to our dismay that whomever had cooked it didn't know what they were doing! There were shells and tiny pieces of brine throughout the bland rice dish, and not much seafood at all. We were both disappointed in the flavor and (ouch!) texture of the paella. Soon after finishing that, our main dishes came out, and we were equally displeased with those. My chicken for example was so dry that I had to sip my Coke each time I took a bite! Very annoying to have such poor quality in what was for us a somewhat expensive meal. Dessert was the best part - I had the chocolate mousse and Glenn had ice cream. It came out nicely presented and was tasty. Finally! We were sorry to be hungry enough to have eaten the meal, but at least it was over! We paid and left.

Next we were heading off to the train station to confirm the train schedule for our trip back to Milan, leaving the next night. We checked at the info window and got a printout of the trains we'd want, but the reservations window was closed, so we couldn't book our seats. No problem, we could do that on Friday, since our first train didn't depart Hendaye (nearby) until after 11pm. Plenty of time to book them tomorrow!
