The Beaches and Port area of San Sebastian. It was overcast for most of our visit here.

We awoke around 6:00 am in anticipation of our arrival into San Sebastian. The expected arrival time was 7:03 am and as the sun was coming up in the mountain passes we decided to enjoy the views. We made a stop around 6:40 am and as not knowing exactly where we were (and even if we did it did not mean much to us) we prepared to disembark at 7:03 am. We needed to be ready to disembark as some of the overnight stops seemed more like drive by drop offs where if you didn't get on or off the train in the half second that they actually stopped you would miss your chance. After we had our packs reloaded on our backs we went to stand by the door. We didn't realize how far behind schedule we had gotten overnight and ended up arriving into town around 7:30 am. Oh well, we were definitely not going to miss getting off the train.

We disembarked and headed out of the train station. We had some choices of places to stay based on our Lonely Planet guide and that is where we were heading. We knew we didn't want to stay in the Parte Vieja district, as that is where most of the late night bars are and we had had enough of not sleeping that we wanted a quiet place. Our choice was nearer the center of town and a few blocks from the beach. Upon leaving the train station we were met by 3 different people offering rooms. The first two had rooms a little farther out of town than we liked (and seemed a little dodgy) but the third lady seemed real pleasant. Off we went with her to look at her place. All the offers had been for 30 Euro's a night so we were not worried about getting a good price somewhere. The place had 3 rooms, 1 with complete bathroom, and was very clean. It was only a 5 minute walk to the beach so we agreed to stay. The other couple was preparing to leave (it was only 7:45 am) and the room still had to be cleaned.

We dropped our bags and headed out for breakfast. We found a little pastry shop down the street and enjoyed coffee, orange juice, and some donuts. We then took a stroll down to the beach before heading back to the room to meet the young lady at 9:00 am. She was still cleaning the room when we returned (she had gone out to sketch up some other people for her other rooms) so we waited in the kitchen while she finished. Upon getting into the room we showered and napped for a few hours (our usual after an overnight train ride) before heading back out later in the day.
