Park Entry, Camping and Safari Fees

These are included in all our mountain trek and safari prices. Tanzania is a culturally very rich but economically very poor country. The average income per capita is less than 300 USD per annum. On top of the poverty Tanzania has a huge Aids problem to deal with. There are over one million people infected with HIV out of a total population of some 30 million. Conservation of the wilderness and wildlife is expensive. Foreign visitors are a major contributor to the Tanzanian GDP. Entry and camping fees will suffer a large increase in 2006. The following list of 2006 prices will give you an idea of how much we charge you actually goes to TANAPA and other Tanzanian park authorities:

Kilimanjaro NP Entry Fees: 60 USD/73 EUR Per Adult/Per Day (PA/PD)

Serengeti NP Entry Fees: 50 USD/61 EUR PA/PD

All Parks Special Campsite Fees: 50 USD/61 EUR PA/PD

Ngorongoro Conservation Area Public Campsite Fees: 40 USD/49 EUR PA/PD

All Parks Public Campsite Fees: 30 USD/36 EUR PA/PD

Ngorongoro Conservation Area Walking Safari Fees: 20 USD/24 EUR PA/PD

Tips

All our driver guides, mountain guides, cooks and porters are licensed. We pay full salaries as recommended by the Kilimanjaro Guides and Porters Association. Porters have to carry up mountains the cooking, safety and living equipment, food and water, their own stuff plus your stuff. You may find that while you are having difficulty in surmounting an outcrop on the Umbwe route, a porter with some 25 kilos on his back will offer his hand to help you. We expect you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food prepared by the cooks under difficult conditions on mountains and in the bush. You may find the driver guide on safari telling you in your Spanish language the name of that rare bird.

If you are satisfied with services rendered we suggest the following tipping guidelines for a party of 4 visitors:

Kilimanjaro Marangu Route: Guides (2) USD 10 per day; cook and porters (6) USD 8 per day.

Kilimanjaro Machame and Umbwe routes: Guides (2) USD 12 per day; cook and porters (7) USD 10 per day.

Mt. Meru: Armed ranger (1) USD 10 per day; cook and porters (6) USD 6 per day.

Crater Highlands Trekking: Driver guide (1) USD 10 per day; armed ranger (1) USD 10 per day; cook (1) USD 8 per day; donkey drivers (4) USD 4 per day; donkeys (5) USD 1 per day, however, they would prefer carrots.

Adventure Camping Safaris: Driver guide (1) USD 10 per day. If he/she speaks a requested language other than English and Swahili USD 12 per day; cook (1) USD 8 per day.
