the California Geographical Survey, a project of Dr. William Bowen of Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN).  Contains an electronic map library and digital map bases using census data and Digital Elevation Models.  DEMs show the surface of the land;  for the adventurous and those digitally non-fearful, click on Cartographic Resources:  Digital Map Bases, then click on DEMs of California and the West.  You will need special viewing software – follow a link on his page to download the software needed.
