"I know you probably won't be here to do MUCH and that's okay.." she said quickly, putting her hands on my chest, "but at least help me decide what should go in here." All I could do was kiss her, she knew me well enough to know that I wanted to be involved in absolutely everything. We went back downstairs and Jess decided to fix a light dinner, so I hauled my suitcases up the stairs and took a quick shower. As I was on my way back to the kitchen, I noticed the room off the dining room, the one with the sliding door that led to a small deck. There was a big sheet of butcher's paper taped to the doorway with a message especially for me written in black marker. I laughed out loud when I read it. "TAYLOR HANSON! THIS ROOM CONTAINS YOUR WEDDING PRESENT!! SO NO PEEKING UNTIL AFTER THE WEDDING..I AM NOT KIDDING!! ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK BUSTER!!" and then there was a big smiley face with a heart next to it at the bottom and another smaller note. "P.S. I love you, you big surprise spoiling dork! Jess." "What in the hell is so funny?" she asked, standing behind me with her hand on her hip. She pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh. "Come here, baby.." I grinned and pulled her into my arms. "I love you more than anything else in the world, do you know that?" "I love you too, Tay." "I promise not to look in there until you tell me to, okay. It looks like you went to alot of trouble." "Not that much trouble, but I did want it to be a surprise." she said and kissed me. "Come and eat, baby. before it gets cold." "Okay. It smells good by the way, restaurant food gets old after a while." "Thank you..now come on and eat it. I wanna hear all about your trip too." |
JESSIE: I was so excited that Tay was home I could barely eat. His being here made my stomach do flips, because now the fact that our wedding would take place the day after tomorrow was very real. I wound up basically sitting with him and listening as he talked, telling me all about the different shows they had done, some of the radio spots they had done and, of course, a few of their dorky, brotherly antics. I laughed especially hard when he told me about a few practical jokes they played on his dad. "I can't believe you would do that to your own father..Tay..oh god.." I wiped my eyes. "Why not?" he grinned back, "You should have seen some of the stuff he did to us when we were little." "Okay, baby..but don't tell me tonight.." I told him. "My tummy is already sore from laughing too hard." He chuckled and then got up to put his plate in the kitchen. I shooed him off when he reached for mine, "I'll take mine, baby." I said and followed him into the kitchen. We cleaned up together, and then I announced that I needed a shower, having come from the gym still all sweaty because I had put off working out until the end of the day. "Sorry, baby. But you KNOW I wasn't expecting you.." I grinned. "AND I had a ton of stuff to catch up on, so Jakey and Lacey won't be swamped while we're gone." My stomach flipped again at the prospect of getting to just BE with him for that many days. "Go ahead Jess, I'm just gonna wander through the house and see where you put everything.." he smiled. "It's great, but I'd like to be able to find things." he kissed my cheek. "As long as you don't break the tape on that door, Taylor Hanson.." I grinned. "Damn! You read my mind..." he teased. "Dammit Tay! Get in here with me..now I'll be all nervous. It"s a WEDDING present.." I pouted. |
"Aww Jess....I'm dying to know what you got me that needs a whole room to hide it till you're ready to give it to me..." he whined, making that sad puppy face that he made when he tried to get me to pick out furniture. "Puh-leeeeeeze baby" "No.." I grinned, then squealed when he pulled me into his arms. "No way...TAY...it's a wedding present.." I struggled when he threw me over his shoulder and hauled me down the stairs. "Jessie..stop fighting me.." he laughed, "You're..gonna...makeme...drop you.." "TAAAY!! Dammit!!" I giggled and struggled to get free, but it was kind of hard, because the way he had me thrown over his shoulder and the closeness of him to me was making me dizzy. "Baby...." I pouted when he set me down. "I...Tay..DAMN!" I grinned as he gave me the puppy face again and got down on his knees. "Pretty pleeeeese.." he batted his eyelashes. "Come on, Jess...I can't stand it...baby..you're killlin' me..I gotta know what's behind that door.." he wrapped his arms around my waist and spoke the last into my stomach. "Hey kid..." he cupped his hands against my stomach, "See what you can do to get your mother to open that door for me.." he whispered. "OH GOD! TAY! Poor baby..." I rubbed my tummy, then ran my hands through his hair and kissed his forehead and giggled again. "You don't wanna know THAT bad do you? You really can't wait until Saturday night?" I asked. "Noooo.." he pressed his forehead to my tummy. "I have to know..have to see what's behind that door.." "OH MY GOD! Tay..you're insane..okay." he jumped to his feet smiling like a kid on Christmas morning. "But just wait a minute..YOU STAY RIGHT HERE..and don't look until I tell you.." I told him firmly and sat him in a dining room chair. "Don't MOVE.." I grinned, pointing my finger at him. |
TAYLOR: It was really hard for me to sit and wait, when she ran outside and through the slider to get into the room. I heard her slide the door shut and lock it, then switch on the light. "Jess?" i called to her when I heard her moving around in there. "TAY! JEEZ! Gimme a sec.." she laughed, her voice muffled by the closed door between us. I heard her moving again, and then she shut off the light and slid the door that led to the outside open and shut. She appeared beside me again in another minute, out of breath, with a huge warm smile on her face. "Okay..go ahead.." she said and rested her hands on my waist as I took down the paper she had put up. I wanted to save it, so I took it down carefully and folded it. I looked back at her as I put my hand on the doorknob, and her dark eyes were lit up and sparkling. "You had to see it so bad...go on.." she grinned. I kept my eyes on hers as I opened the door and reached in to switch the light back on. "Go ahead Tay.." she said softly, "Look.." When I turned and looked I could not breathe. "Jessie.." I whispered and squeezed her hand. The room was definately not what I remembered. Gone was the carpet, replaced with a hardwood floor, vertical blinds covered the slider and the lighting was soft. There were silver framed pictures all over the room and books lined the shelves on one of the walls. But in the center of the room was a piano, exactly like the one that I had at my parents house, but this one was new. And on top of the paino was a silver framed portrait of Jessie and I at Ike's wedding. The same one that was in her locket. |
