Isaac and Zac kept working, after their brief break for food and the scuffle with Taylor in the kitchen, until both of them had sore fingers and their eyes were watering from concentrating on the papers in fron of them. Zac stretched and groaned loudly, then turned to his brother. "Dude...I can't sit here anymore. I think they're gonna have to surgically remove my ass from this chair." he grinned and stood slowly. "Thanks Zac. That's a visual I want...somebody operating on you're hemmorhoid infested backside. Jeez. What are you gonna do?" Ike asked, wondering if it would be anything that could keep his mind from wandering to Jade. Even as they worked and wrote, he couldn't keep his mind from drifting to her sweet, dimpled, smile and the touch of her small soft hands. He wondered if he'd ever get the chance to kiss her again, like they'd kissed the other night, outside Jaime's place. He relived that kiss, over and over, since that night. He desperately wanted to dig his hand into her long, blonde curls, trace the tattoo that stretched across her lower back, feel her body pressed against his. He wanted to feel her arms around his neck, her fingers tangle in his curly hair, the way she'd done before they'd abruptly broke apart. He wanted to hear her call his name, with her soft, sweet voice, hear her laugh like she had when he'd been trying to cheer her up at the movies the other night. "HEY HEADCHEESE!!!" Zac's exasperated yell yanked him back from his daze. "Sorry Zac." he answered, shaking his head slightly as if it would clear his brain of any thought of Jade. Jaded. That'd be a good term for him right now. He could concentrate on anything but her anyway. "What were you going to do?" he asked again, as he remprimanded himself silently. Jade belonged to Josh and Josh was family. It just wasn't right. "I SAID..." Zac began irritably, "I was going to go ride the 4-wheeler in the woods out back. I'm sick of just sitting here and my ASS is sore. Are you gonna ride or not?" Zac asked, impatiently. "Yeah...let's motor." Ike grinned and followed Zac outside. Trying to keep up with Zac, and making sure he didn't kill himself, or making sure Zac didn't go too ape, on the damn things would surely take all his concentration. "Let's rock n' roll baby!!" Zac hollered and bounded down the steps from the kitchen to the garage. "I must be insane..' Ike muttered to himself and ran to catch his brother. Jade sighed heavily as the phone next to her elbow rang. "I just know that has to be Josh.." she murmured to herself, trying to ignore the phone. Her curiosity got the better of her though, when she remembered the last time she thought it was Josh, it turned out to be Isaac. "Hello?" she answered the phone breathlessly. "Hello Jade." the voice on the other end was definately NOT Isaac Hanson. "Hello, Josh. How are you feeling?" she asked, trying hard not to sound disappointed, though that's what she was. "A little better.." he paused and she held the phone away from ear and a coughing fit assualted her eardrum. "Yeah. You sound better." Jade said sarcastically. "Thanks." came the equally sarcastic reply. "Is there something you need, Josh?" Jade asked impatiently. "You really should be in bed." she told him. "I NEEDED you to call me. Ike said he gave you my message.." another coughing fit assaulted her ear. "He did." she rolled her eyes toward the ceiling. "I have a life Josh, and a job and things to do. I just got here. And honestly I am not so sure I even WANT to talk to you. I don't even care why you stood me up anymore." she felt her face get hot with renewed anger. "The fact is, YOU DID. And I was thoroughly humiliated when Ike called here looking for you. I am still angry." she said hastily. "Oh come on baby...you know I love you. I would never do that on purpose.." he begged his voice raw from coughing. Jade felt her resolve soften a bit. "You still haven't told me what happened." she demanded, then felt guilty. She really hadn't given him a chance to explain. "How could I?" he squawked, his voice cracking. "You wouldn't even talk to me, and then Lucifer's daughter shoved me out the door.." he was wracked with another coughing fit. "Dammit Josh. You should be in bed, call me when you are feeling better. And I will thank you NOT to call my best friend in the world names. I don't think Taylor would appreciate it very much either. Goodbye Josh. I hope you feel better soon." she said curtly and hung up the phone. She folded her arms over her chest and stared at the TV, her body heaving with the effort to control her anger. She thought of Jamie and grinned. Jamie would be standing her cheering and probably would break out a pint of something strong to celebrate. She instantly reached for the phone. |
"Hello?" Jamie asked breathlessly into the phone. She'd been playing her drums and a song idea suddenly popped into her head, so she was sweaty, totally focused and a bit impatient at having been ripped from her creative process by the phone. "Jameson?" Jade asked, "are you okay? You're not with..." Jade found herself blushing thinking that she may have interrupted her and Taylor. "Jadeleigh! No...no he's not even here yet. What's up girlfriend?" Jamie grinned wickedly. "How was LUNCH?" she asked Jade pointedly. "Apparently not as good as your four hour breakfast, you ho." Jade teased back. Jamie sighed into the phone and her smile faded a bit. jade instantly felt her friend's change in mood. "Jame? What, babe? It never bothered you when I teased you like that before...you KNOW i don't mean it like THAT.." she said quickly. "Jadeleigh....take a chill pill babe. It's wasn't you, but that term doesn't apply with Tay..." Jamie sighed heavily. "It's different..." she stopped and chewed on her bottom lip thoughtfully. "Oh shit. Jame?" Jade asked into the long silence. "JAMIE!" "Yeah Jadeleigh. I'm still here. Just thinking. I am in the middle of writing a new song too.." Jamie answered. "Jamie? I'm coming over..." Jade said, in a tone that told Jamie there would be no way to keep her from doing so. |
