General Contractor Presentation
Parish Council Unapproved Minutes, May 19, 2009
Present: Mary Lou Ungs, Fr Mike Tauke, Julie King, Kristi Even, Jeff Heineman, Jim O’Donnell, Nancy Duneman, Ted Scheidel, Angie Beck, Nancy McKenzie, Bob Bauman. Also present: Dixie Jacobs.

Fr Mike led the faith sharing based on the Question of the Week. Minutes accepted.

Parish Elections: Newly elected for council are Ron Cruise, Pat Deike & Steve Phyfe; for faith formation board are Tiffany Groomes & Becky O’Donnell.

Finance & Building Update: Offertory is still above budget, but has slightly declined as summer begins. No extraordinary expenditures occurred.

Building Update: Work is beginning on paving the parking lot. We will also have a one-way road from the NW corner of parking lot, around north side of building, & exiting on the NE corner of main parking lot. Additional handicap & delivery parking will be available on the north side; as well as a closer drop-off area for those with difficulty walking. The drainage issues were reviewed today by our contractor & sub-contractors. They will put in mats in the high erosion areas, which will be seeded over. This should help the wash outs until the seeding takes hold. They are also putting 3 feet wide edger with mulch around the building for better drainage & easier mowing. The Drexler Center appraisal by the potential buyer came in at $147,000; our appraiser estimated $230,000. However, the committee felt the buyer’s appraisal was more accurate. (See decision item below.) Ted needs a volunteer to help move trees with a ¾ ton pickup. We will ask for a volunteer in the bulletin.

Leadership Social: Kristi volunteered to host the leadership social on June 11 at 6pm.

Rental Policy: The following items were amended/added to the rental agreement drafted by the finance committee. Non-profits can rent the facility at the pastor’s discretion. If the person/organization wants to setup the day before, it must be during regular office hours. A funeral may be scheduled the day before or morning before a “rental” event. Fees need to be paid 2 weeks before the event, & will not be refunded if the event is cancelled within 14 days of event.

Noah’s Camp: Two camps for children affected by the floods/tornado will be held in the Waverly area. Recover Iowa asked for donations to support this project. The council agreed to run the request in the bulletin & forward donations to the Bremer Co. Recovery Coalition.

Decision Items:
1. Drexler Center: Jeff Heineman made a motion to accept any offer over $140,000 for the Drexler Center. Angie Beck seconded, the motion passed unanimously.
2. Rental Agreement: Ted Scheidel made a motion to accept the amended rental agreement for St Mary facilities. Nancy McKenzie seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously.
