04/10 Angels 3 Splurgers 0 We turned up. They didn't. 3 points to Angels! 10/10 Angels 4 Ladykillers 7 The Division 1 campaign started in earnest but sadly the opening day duck continues. Just as in the last 3 years Angels have been unable to win the first game of the season, so this year they lost again. 7-4. The start was bright enough with some competitive challenges and a free kick was won outside their box after about 15 mins. The resulting free kick saw Harris curl one into the top corner past the flailing keeper after Tonkin managed to stand in the Keeper's line of sight. 10 minutes later Angels doubled their lead after Harris was hacked, albeit outside the box, and a penalty was awarded. Wilkie looked nervous but tucked the pen away in customary fashion. The defensive pairing of Dan's Ball and Mike Steel looked strong. However, minutes before half time Ladykillers pulled one back as an ex-Hearts youth player took the ball past half the team and side footed past the stand in keeper. Half-time 2-1 Angels were confident as the second half started but the momentum they had gained was lost. A second goal was conceded early in the half as a free kick bounced off the bar and was tapped in from 2 yards after some poor marking. A third and a fourth followed, before Tonkin scored direct from a free kick to make it 3-4. Ladykillers stretched their lead again before Warwick scored on his debut with a clinical finish. At 4-5 the battling continued, Wilkie playing Tonkin in on the keeper but his shot went wide. Angels soon tired and lost heart as a sixth went in, and a seventh soon followed. Team: McCorkindale, Noor, Liddell, Steel, Whittall, Hutchison, Harris, Tonkin, Marrs, Warwick, Wilkie. Sub - Hutchinson 11/10 Angels 1 FC Sally 5 Angels learnt some harsh lessons during their first foray into the 6s competition. Some nice football was played but the fit, fast and experienced Sally knew how to play on the smaller pitch and found it all to easy. One plus point at least was Seb Hutchinson's fine volleyed goal. Here's to next week! Team: McKirdy, Carruthers, Whittall, Hutchison, Liddell, Wilkie Subs - Hutchinson, Stewart |
