| Every parent has dreams for their child. Probably, one of the most important dreams is that they each be "good" people". It's only after years of first hand experience that I started to realize the variables that make up a "good" person. While watching my kids interact with other kids, I have learned that there are many aspects of this "goodness"..Traits like resolving conflict, respect, listenng, and self-control became critical to the smooth workings of the day, if not preserving life itself. As they continued to grow, I became aware of qualities like cooperation, accountability, responsibility, peacemaking and caring. I know that as they get older trustworthiness and the ability to accept differences in others will be essential to creating the "good" person I am hoping to raise. Raising children is a challenge even to the most loving and well-intentioned parent. We get to watch our children take each step on the great journey of Life. As challenging as parenthood is, it is also equally rewarding, because we are using all our wisdom, our talent and skills to help forge a new person. My children are my great accomplishment, and the opportunity to raise them is my greatest challenge. I don't know if they will grow up to be great leaders or world-class brain surgeons. Frankly, I don't care, as long as they grow up to love the Lord, and to be good people. They are my greatest joys, even though I sometimes cry myself to sleep at night in frustration............ The joys and stresses of guiding our children can be put into perspective with effective parenting skills. These skills are learnable! For parents who want their child-rearing task to be a positive, encouraging experience, this page is for you. I have put up in this page compiled articles I have read in magazines, books, and in the internet. |
