Alberta
(a tribute to the Quantum Leap episode Pool Hall Blues)

When have I let you down?
Each time you slid your massive hands about my frame;
Have I not taken you through to the finish;
Obeying when you whispered my name?

You called all the shots.
I’d contribute a fraction.
Carefully you’d gauge;
Each equal and opposite reaction.

I never knew glory;
Like I knew with you;
But I lie here diminished;
Broken in two.

Raging with jealousy;
At the new one you hold;
Screaming inaudibly;
As your fingers enfold.

She’ll never know you;
Not like our shared years brought us close.
You’ll never play this one;
Like you played with this ghost.
