A Son’s Love
(a tribute to the Quantum Leap episode Rebel Without a Clue)

I won’t be coming home dad;
Though I wish I could;
But I’ll still stop to visit;
Because it does my heart such good.

But pop, you can’t continue;
When deep inside you know;
To believe that I’ll be coming back;
Or pretend I didn’t go.

The gifts you keep so diligently;
In the closet in my room;
I thank you for your thoughts of me;
But you’re making this my tomb.

This war it took a lot of things;
My life was just one more.
I see you kept my favorite stuff;
Like the jacket I once wore.

None of this will bring me back;
And I can see it’s killing you.
You’ll always have your lost son’s love;
No matter what you do.

It’s okay to change the bed sheets;
Give my things away;
Redecorate these battered walls;
Let some other child stay.

Let one more heart;
Be light and glad;
To have the father;
I once had.
