"There is never a better measure of what a person is than what he does when he is absolutely free to choose."

There are a lot of people out there that can make you feel better, but sometimes feeling better is not what is needed.  I know in my case, I sometimes needed a boot in the hip pockets to get me started and keep me motivated.  I needed someone that would show me myself and what I needed to change about myself.  I needed someone that had my best interests at heart and made me feel like I wasn't just another payment on their Mercedes.

I got lucky and found a couple of people.  They are not professional counselors or some egghead with a degree who hasn't experienced squat.  They are common men who hade traveled this road we call life and made some sense of it. When they both say the same thing to me then the information is usually reliable.  Neither one has been dead on perfect.  I had to realize this.  We all are subject to mistakes.  Know this and you'll go a far piece toward tolerance of yourself and others.  I had to find people that would tell me what I needed, not what I wanted to hear.

Truth is like that.  Sometimes the edge can be sharp and cold.  As I had gone through my life, I wanted everything presented to me all tied up in ribbons, bows and pretty paper.  I missed out on many of the lessons I was supposed to have learned.  I was so busy looking for happily ever after; I had no idea of reality and how to deal with the situation at hand.  I wasn't  listening to the will of God. These advisors and mentors cared enough about me to allow me to make my mistakes and help me off my knees when my choices blew up in my face.

I have learned to take what I can use from anyone that has something useful to offer.  As I said before, not everyone who has something useful to share is a Ph.D.   My grand father was the wisest man about reading people I ever met.  Grandpa was a farmer that didn't get past second grade.  He had trouble reading books, but could read your soul as if he was a great scholar. I learned a great deal from him as I remembered what he shared with me.

The common man has knowledge too.  Most of these high priced Gurus won't agree, but people are pretty smart if they just let themselves be smart.  These people have earned their degrees from a school called life.

The only way you learn here is to fall on your face every now and again then let someone else help you up.

Grandpa said that life is more about choice and acceptance than luck and circumstance.  God gives us choices and we take our pick.  The trick is in living with our choices.
