Yule is the longest night of the year. It's the time when the days begin to grow longer and the darkness decreases. This is the festival of the Suns rebirth, a time to honor the Horned God. Witches bid farewell to the Great Mother and welcome the reborn Horned God who rules the dark half of the year. The traditional colours for this festival are gold, dark and light green for the God and still dark red for the Goddess. Traditional customs for this Sabbat are the Yule Log. This was believed that the old custom of the Yule bonfire which was burned to give life and power to the sun, which was thought of as being reborn at the Winter Solstice. In modern times it was replaced by the indoor burning of logs and red candles etched with carvings of solar designs and other magickal symbols. Mistletoe is also considered a tradition. Hanging it over the doorways was thought to give men access to the Underworld. It was also thought to possess great healing powers. The traditional foods of the Sabbat are: roasted turkey, nuts, fruitcakes, caraway rolls, eggnog and mulled wine, and hot chocolate.
