Terry on the upper reaches of the new E1
Early explorations of Craig y Braich had unearthed a handful of easier, but worth while lines on this beautifully situated, but cold, north facing, high mountain crag.
No suprise that with Terry Taylor involved the number of routes on the crag would double in a few hours !
Despite Terry and I both being involved in the exploration of Arenig Fawr,Terry-who climbs about six grades harder than me-and I had never shared a rope.On an exceptionally cold June day,Terry donned his winter apparel and led three fine new routes:an HS,HVS and an elegant E1. I led an enjoyable severe.
Terry's attempt at a new E3-5c was thwarted at the crux by the biting cold north wind which left his fingers numb.
We shall return....hopefully on a more clement day !
Terry on the route of the crag so far.A really excellent E1 which climbs a direct line starting at a free standing pinnacle and continues up the steep wall above.
Craig Y Braich...North Snowdonia.
TT on the steep new hard severe. As yet unnamed.
Unfinished business for the flying doctor ! TT at the crux of the thin, poorly protected E3 on Craig y Braich.
In early August I took my youngest son Luke on his first climbing trip.We went up to have a look at a 'new' crag that I had spotted on the nearby moors.
Luke quickly picked up the art of seconding and enjoyed himself on the virgin rock. The little gritstone like outcrop is no more than 30' high but looks well worth developing.I hope I can get back up there and mop up some tasty looking lines.
