REPLICATORS:
Since there invention in 2353 Replicators have revolutionized the economies of the UFP.  Suddenly almost any object was available for credits per kilogram.  Whole markets were restructured. An item need only be perfectly constructed once and then it could be replicated again and again.  Almost any government could afford to feed and house their entire population for a fraction of the taxes collected.

AMOUNT OF DATA IN A REPLICATOR PROGRAM:
Replicator store there menus as quads of data. One quad = 1x10^16 bytes = 10,000 terabytes.  A single isolinear chip holds 2.15 kiloquads of data.  1 kg of high resolution replicator material takes up 5 quads (or .005 kiloquads or .000005 megaquads).  This means that one chip can hold up to 430 kg of high resolution replicator data.

LIMITATIONS OF A REPLICATOR
Elements that come from the 4th extended scale of the periodic table (such as Latinum Ditensenide) have high false-vacuum energy potentials.  This means that no replication technology is able to detect the exact proportion of matter in a samples present four-space.  Because of this Latinum is unreplicatible.
Materials unsuitable for replication include:
Lithium Crystal (used in old MARs)
Dilithium Crystal (used in current MARs)
Fushigi-no-umi (sea of wonder) (LiCu 518 & 521) (phaser emitters)
Monocrystal Cortenum (component of warp coils)
Polysilicate Verterium (component of warp coils)

THINGS THAT CAN BE REPLICATED BUT ARE CHEAPER TO MANUFACTURE:
Chromopolymer Linear Memory Crystal (isolinear chips & rods)

SOME THINGS THAT YOU CAN REPLICATE:
Replicators
Lead to Gold

BUT WHY CAN'T YOU REPLICATE PHASERS?
Several passages in the TV series and Official Technical Manuals "indicate" phaser are unable to be replicated.
For example the TNG Technical Manual explicitly states that a Galaxy Class doesn't carry Type III Phasers in its armory.  There is also no training offered for phaser rifles.  This statement becomes almost useless is phasers can be replicated.  If any shuttle can replicate a phaser rifle then why not offer training?  And why make a big deal about not carrying any?
In the DS9 Technical Manual they state the DS9's armory has several of the older Type III phasers.  This version of the Type III has been out of production for 6 years.  If the design was effectivly replaced 6 years ago why not dump the old one in the bulk matter storage bin and replicate the new versions?  O'brien apparently even went to the trouble to "upgrade" the outdated phasers!  If replicators truly are the wonder machine they appear to be then replicating new rifles would be much easier then disassembling and upgrading the old ones!  The only reason they would have out-dated phasers is that it would be to expensive to get new ones.  Later in the same book they say that the Type 3a Compression Phaser isn't in the DS9 armory because of limited supply!  Obviously Phaser Rifles can't be replicated.  What goes for the rifel probably goes for the pistol too.
In "The Most Toys" we learn that there are only five Varon T disruptors in the Galaxy.  This is meaningless if they can be replicated.  So Disruptors can't be replicated either.
So Star Trek's disintegrators (phasers/distruptors) can't be replicated.  But why?  After considering each part of a phaser I've discovered that there is only one component that is found in a phaser that isn't found in other device that are known to be replicatable - the stabilized LiCu 521 superconducting crystal.  The DS9 tech manual makes a big deal about how hard the Phaser Crystals used by Defiant's Phaser Cannons are to MANUFACTURE.  These crystals (described as the "heart" of a phaser) are responsible for the unique stream of nadions that is the phaser beam.  Dilithium Crystals can't be replicated (presumable because of single bit errors), so perhaps the LiCu 521 crystal can't be replicated for the same reasons.
My site assumes that almost all of the cost of Nuclear Disruption Force weapon (such as a phaser or disruptor) is due to the time and difficulty in manufacturing the superconducting crystal.  The actual value is based loosely on the costs given for FASA's phasers.  I use the following formula  "Cost = [1.1(range) + 130] [.38(setting) - 2]"   to determine the cost of my phasers and disruptors.
Of course if you can find any on screen source that states the Phasers can be replicated I will gladly revise my website.  Just drop me a letter at willbswift@hotmail.com.
