There is a NEARLY innumerable amount (that's the challenge here!) of different percussion instruments.  I think percussionists are multi-instrumentalists, after all, every instruments has its own acquired technique. Just think of a samba band...  A lot these instruments are derived from other cultures and have a long history.  I like to debate with people, where the roots of instruments lie, like congas, are they really purely derived from Congolese drums or is there a Ghanaian influence as well?  A modern drumkit is actually a mishmash of different cultural heritage thrown into one!

In this directory I hope to build up a thorough resource of instruments and their backgrounds, maintenance and basic techniques.
This site will be under construction for a long time!
Instruments will be listed with photos and by style of music and region.
Please, if you have anything to add to the dimension of this directory, I'll be more than happy to hear about it!
