The belief is that when a person dies, that person would be judged according to his/her works/thoughts and according reincarnation if that person fails to achieve a certain level of enlightenment. Rreincarnation into the world for that person depended upon the amount of good versus evil works/thoughts.  A surplus of evil would result in the rebirth of that person as an animal; the animal category depending on the level of evil.  A surplus of good would result in the rebirth of that person into a wealthy and prosperous family of humans.
Apart from the obvious emphasis on self salvation and the ignorance of imperfection in man, this is a diabolical perversion of the truth of the Bible.

Jesus was part of the Godhead who fulfilled the will of God and loved mankind to be born of a virgin, the one and only incarnation of God in the flesh.  Jesus taught that Man must be born again to be saved.  What Jesus meant was for a person to renounce his life and to start afresh as a new person constantly dwelling in Jesus.  This is the REBIRTH Jesus talks about - not for Man to die and go through an evaluation to return to earth via a woman's womb over and over again.
Reincarnation's focus on the measurement of good versus evil works/thoughts.  It makes an assumption that mankind is basically good and hence focuses mainly on this measurement.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord

Buddhism has no concept of a perfect God who created EXISTENCE.  Instead, everything is based upon man's own achievement of a certain level of knowledge and realization called Enlightenment to reach nirvana (paradise).  Buddha being the first to have achieved it through his own meditation.

Satan tempted Eve in the garden to doubt God and to achieve for herself knowledge.
Genesis 3:4 You will not surely die, the serpent said to the woman. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

The practioners of this religion often occupy themselves with man-made truths and principles to meditate upon until they can blank out their minds to achieve self-made peace and realization. Although they work to eradicate the concept of self, the whole process is completely self-reliant, an emphasis on self effort.

1 Corinthians 1:18-21 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:  "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate. Where is the wise man?  Where is the scholar?  Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the fooolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

Deceit here includes the retribution and the cycle of being born, getting sick, growing old and dying  over and over until the person attains perfection. This perverts the truth that Jesus paid for all believers' sins by receiving punishment on the cross. The deception of the reincarnation cycle traps people into believing that it is okay to get sick and die.

Romans 5:9
Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through Him!

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

The same tune of self effort and self attainment echoes through RELIGION.  It is a lie devised to fool man into staying away from God and His plan to save mankind through Jesus Christ. The lie of self atonement for sins and self sufficiency underminds the foundations of Christianity. It does away with the need for a Saviour.
We must realise that good works/thoughts are the products of constantly dwelling in Jesus Christ. They are not the product of self effort and initiative. They are inspired by Christ, nothing contrived. While these are desirable and good to mankind, they do not save man from sin. Man is saved by faith in Christ alone.

Isaiah 64:6 All of us have become like one who is uncleaan, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

Romans 3:27-28 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith.  For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.
