The children of Charles and Frances grew up in some rough and rowdy times. They were hard workers and good farmers. They worked on the oil rigs in Texas and the coal mines in California. Grandpa Marvin Lee Harper had his own trucks (a small trucking company) and hauled vegetables for many farms. My father learned to drive these trucks and work the fields (like most of the Harper boys), and then in 1943 at the age of 21 1/2 he joined the Army/Air Force in WWII. He flew 32 missions over Germany and was shot down over enemy territory (and lived to tell about it). My father Chess L Harper died on July 12, 1997 in Washington County, Forest Grove, Oregon. See my "Harper" history for more about these rugged Harper Boys. |
Recently Leonard Gause, and Patricia Williams have added some documented information to help with our find our GAUSE roots: Emory P. Gause married Caroline Gardner (ca. 1837 in Georgia) and they had ten children: Lenora (ca. 1853 in N.C.), Robert (ca. 1855 in N.C.), Mary (ca. 1857 in GA.), John W. (ca. 1859 in GA), Henry C. (ca. 1865 in GA.), Josie E. (ca. 1865 in N.C.), Olan Brantley (March 27, 1868 in Brunswick County, NC), Bille V. (ca. 1872 in MS), *Belle Vance Gause Fannie R. (ca. 1873 in MS) *Frances Roberta Gause Joe F. (ca. 1875 in MS). It can be assumed that around 1870, they must have moved to Mississippi, due to the fact that their last three children are stated to have been born there. In the 1880 United States Census for Texas, June 8, 1880, Emery and Caroline are found living in Red River county, Precinct #2. Along with them are seven of their children: Henry C., Josie E., Olan B., Bille V., Fannie R., Joe F., and John W. At that time, Emery stated his occupation to be that of a farmer. His sons and daughter, Henry, Josie, Olan B., and John W., are listed as laborers. ...... Fannie R. Gause married C. L. Harper in Hunt County, Texas on Septermer 30, 1888. ....... Leonard R. Gause SGS Petroleum Service Corp. ------------------------------------------ I am Patricia Tebow Williams, I believe your Francis R Gause is the daughter of Emory Puerifoy Gause and Caroline Narcissa Gardner. Caroline Gause is buried at Hubbard Limestone County Texas. They had a daughter Lenora Gause who married John Henry Hammonds who was my line.Francis had a sister who also married a Harper, Belle V. Gause was her name. |
