It is fair to say that this result and the high standard of the opposition were unexpected. Malmesbury should definitely be higher up the league table. With a depleted squad it took Wolverhmapton until the second set to really get going and properly attack the opposition. Good setting from Vanessa Malone in an unfamiliar position allowed Kerri Olding and Val Melville to rescue Wolverhampton and produce a 2-1 lead. The game then seemed to go incredibly slowly with numerous stoppages making it difficullt to keep momentum going. However Shape Mavericks of Malmesbury were not going to let that stop them. Their middle attack was particularly effective as Wolverhampton struggled to defend and put up a good first ball allowing the fourth set to go to Malmesbury.In the fifth set the class (and stamina!) of Wolverhampton really showed as they lifted their play especially the standard of blocking to win the game in the final set.
