WRAMTAS President's Message

September 2000

Welcome back students! We are off to a new school year and there are many exciting things to look forward to! Remember if you have any suggestions or questions about the regional student organization, let us know. My e-mail is KRF713@aol.com and I am pretty good at checking my e-mail on an everyday basis. Also, it is not too early to begin thinking about whether you want to run for an office. Elections for new officers will take place at the Regional Conference in March. I highly encourage anyone interested to run for office! This is my second term as president and I donšt know if I can do another one! Self-Nomination Forms should be going out in the next few months.

It is time to establish our communication for the 2000-2001 year. All local clubs at each college/university should have an elected president or regional representative. Please e-mail all information regarding these very important people to our secretary, Erin Salez at ebss47682@csun.edu or at oyvay@mailcity.com . We must have strong communication in order to get things done and be united!

Our website is up and running. You can get to it via link from www.wramta.org. If you have questions or suggestions regarding the website please e-mail our vice-president, Kasi Peters at Kasifrey@hotmail.com. We really want to utilize our web-site because it has long replaced our newsletter. Hopefully it will serve us well!

We are currently working on establishing a budget for the student organization. We have been added as a line-item to the professional organization. Our treasurer, Rachel Harr has been working with the regional treasurer on making sure we have a sound budget. Keep up the good work Rachel!

Our first event as students in the western region happens in October. Last year, we designated the month of October as "Music Therapy Month" and several students participated in the service project. It was quite impressive and I hope that we can reproduce the success this year. Each school is being asked to contact a local facility (school, adult center, older adult living center, etc.) and put on a music performance of some kind. It can definitely include music therapy techniques, a sing-along, or an instrumental/vocal performance. A reminder, it only takes at least one person to represent a school as well as the region and this can easily be accomplished by a small group of people. As long as music is used and the name WRAMTAS is used, then it can be accepted as part of the project. Just be sure to e-mail me with the information so that we can include in our report at the National Conference.

One last thing, in our Constitution and By-Laws there is a suggested $25 donation from each school organization to help send the regional student president to national conference. Also, if any student would like to send a $2 donation to assist the student president as well it would be greatly appreciated. It is quite an expensive trip and required, but I feel it is also extremely important for our region to be represented at the student executive committee meetings. All monies should be sent to Laura Walters whose address is located in this issue of the Sounding Board.

One last reminder, students are only members of the region if they are paid members of AMTA.

Well, that's all for now... I hope to see some of you in St. Louis! Make sure you come by and say hello! It's always nice to meet new people!

Respectfully Yours,

Karen F. Sanchez
