This morning my toes touched the floor,
As my breaths were drawn in and out.
Nowhere on my body was sore,
How nice to be up and about.

For breakfast, quite a selection:
Waffles, syrup, eggs, and wheat toast.
Never, in my recollection,
Had I not had food I like most.

My dear wife gives me a warm smile,
Which I then hasten to send back.
Not that it has been a long while,
For time for smiles we seldom lack.

Nothing to be fixing today -
All we own is in good order.
And there’s nothing like the spray
Of that needle sharp hot water.

We’ve plenty of clothes to wear, too,
No worries for us on that score.
And there’s not a single bill due.
The checkbook is balanced once more.

There’s pleasure in many things
That we quite often overlook.
Like comfort that warm sunshine brings,
Or adventure reading a book.

Perhaps taking a nature stroll,
And just marveling at it all,
Is so refreshing for the soul,
Making our troubles seem small.

Having a place to live is great,
A solid roof over one’s head.
What a long day, it’s getting late -
Such pleasure in going to bed.
