Article by Vera Thorn Williams: "At the outbreak of the Civil War William H Thorn and Jemima and family were living on Thorn Run in Wirt County, WV. He was engaged in farming a tract of land which he had cleared. At the close of the war, he moved his family to Gibson Co, IN where he bought 300 acres of land in White River Twnshp...William H was a respected member of the Hazleton community and served as Justice of the Peace for several years. He also operated a hotel there in the 1860'w. He was a member of a Masonic lodge in Vincennes, IN. He is buried at Thorn Hill Cemetery."

AYERS FAMILY
Jeremiah Ayres lived at the "Clem" Davis place, a short distance up the right fork of Big Run, at the opening of the Civil War.
Ayres was from Carrol County, Ohio, and father of Jeff Ayers, formerly of Wirt County, and Buenos Ayres, County Superintendent of Roane County, in 1876.
There was another family of Ayres, who lived near Ripley, William G. Ayres, and his wife, Phebe. They came from Pocahontas County, and are buried in the Old Ripley graveyard, side by side.
He was born in 1800, and she twenty four years later, so may be a second wife. He had a son, John, buried by them, who died in 1857, aged twenty four years.
The Harpers were in some way connected with them.
