Alice was a daughter of Christopher Nutter, Sr.,of Somerset Co., MD., who came to America a number of years earlier than the Polks. The Nutters and the Polks of Robert's branch were several times intermarried and two of that family, Thomas and David Nutter, moved to Kentucky in 1793 with Ephraim Polk, 3rd, and other kinsmen, settling near Lexington, where they left numerous descendants.
Alice's will was dated 31 Jan 1772 and was probated in Dorchester County,MD, 16 Feb 1773. Legatees were sons William and Daniel, daughter Esther Russum, granddaughters Esther Nutter and Sarah Nutter.
