The on going battle is always, who is Canada's biggest rock band. Is it Nickelback, The Tragically Hip, Default, The Tea Party, or Our Lady Peace. All of these bands are big, but Our Lady Peace is probably the longest running leader. Our Lady Peace started in 1992 when they released "Out Of Here," on an indie release basis. Thier Canadian breakthrough was in 1994 when they released "Birdman." It was off of "Neveed" which features the hits "Starseed," and "Neveed." Thier biggest hit, however, was in 1997 the alternative/ rock song "Superman's Dead." The video topped many charts in Canada, T.V, and radio. The single was off of "Clumsy." The next single off "Clumsy" was "Clumsy." Then came the hit "Automatic Flowers," then the U.S. version of the hit "Superman's Dead," then the slow rock piece "4 AM." The band got bigger in 1999 with smash single "One Man Army." This, again, was a hit. In late 2000 Our Lady Peace released the animated, special effects filled video for "In Repair." The song was fairly big, but the video got it up the charts faster. "In Repair" was the first single off of "Spiritual Machines." The title came from a Raymond Kurzweils book "Spiritual Machines" which was about computers outsmart humans. "Life" was the next single off the album. In mid-winter 2001 guitarist Mike Turner left the band unexpectedly. Our Lady Peace then held a guitarist search and had thousends of entries even some from Japan, and Australia. They found Steve Mazur from Detroit. He joined in time for OLP's new album "Gravity." It feautures the massive hit "Somewhere Out There." This was thier major U.S. breakthrough. The song topped many charts internationaly. The second single off of "Gravity" is "Innocent" which is currently topping radio charts.
