Canada's rock scene is always growing and producing new big bands. Hailing from Hannah, Alberta, Nickelback are todays biggest Canadain rock group. Thier debut album "Curb" wasn't very successful. Not until 1999 Nickelback hit it big. The album "The State" went gold in Canada and launched thier career. The hits "Leader Of Men," and "Old Enough" hit it big on Billboard Mainstream Rock, and "Old Enough,"  and "Worthy To Say" also had rock chart success. All four singles hit under 25 on rock charts. The band them toured, playing over 200 shows along side similer rock acts like Fuel, Creed, and 3 Doors Down in front of millions. Nickelback at the time tht they had all the success they could get. Then came "Silver Side Up." The first single "How You Remind Me" was written in less then ten minutes on a tour bus.The song was massive. It topped almost every rock chart, Billboard Top 100, flew up pop charts, and landed "Silver Side Up" at #2 in it's first week. The album came out on September 11th. It went multi-platinum in Canada and the U.S. It was produced by Rick Parasher (Pearl Jam, Default.) It also has a song that Big Wreak's Ian thornley plays slide guitar "Good Tiomes Gone." Three of the songs were written before "The State" was released in the U.S. The song is about a marrige where everything is pointed at you. The second single was "Too Bad." The song is about singer/songwriter Chad Kroeger's dad. It describes how his dad was never around when he was growing, and how it's impossible to fix everything. The song was also a hit on rock charts. In late-spring 2002 Chad Kroeger was to record a song for the Spiderman Soundtrack. The song was a duet with Saliva's Josey Scott. Jerry Cantrell was supposed to be on guitar but didn't show up so Theory Of A Deadman's Tyler Connely took over. Members of Pearl Jam play guitar on it. In the video Our Lady Peace's Jeremy Taggart plays drums instead of Pearl Jam's drummer. The song was one of two singles from the soundtrack which Default, Alien Ant Farm, Jerry Cantrell, Theory Of A Deadman, Stone Sour, Sum 41, and others appear on. The song was also a smash hit. "Too Bad" won two awards for MuchLOUD Rock video, and Best Video. The third single was "Never Again." The song is about a broken home, dealing with a drunk, and family violence. The video was shot live in January 2002 in Edmonton on thier Homecoming tour. It was a hit on rock charts, but wasn't as big as the previous two songs. In fall 2002 Chad Kroeger's duet with legendary rocker/guitarist Santana hit radio. It was off Santana's "Sharman" album. The song was a pop/rock mix. It was fairly big on rock, and pop charts. Apart from being the singer of the successful band Kroeger is much more. He has brought two successful rock bands to life. The first was Vancouver's Default.
