The four members of Puddle Of Mudd from Missouri, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Oklahoma were headed no where woth thier crappy jobs, and baggy clothes. So they started Puddle Of Mudd in 1993. The group was signed to Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst's reocrd label Flawless Records. Flawless has the likes of Cold, Staind, and TRUSTcompany on the label. Durst got a hold of the demo after Wes Scantlin handed a secerity guard at a Korn, Limp Bizkit, Method Man, Rammstien etc's Family Values Tour, and told him to hand it to Durst. Durst got and liked it. "Control" was the band's first single. The hard rock song was instently a hit on MTV, The video was directed by Fred Durst. The album "Come Clean" debuted at #10 on the Billboard Top 200. Scantlin got to preform an acoustic cover with Fred Durst, and Jimmy Page at the MTV Europe Awards. Puddle Of Mudd's second single surprised everyone. "Blurry" is a softer, rock, pop-infulenced song. The video was directed again by Fred Durst and has Wes' pride and joy. His son Jordan Sacantlin. The song flew up rock, and pop charts. It dominated rock radio and MTV airplay. "Come Clean" sales passed it's debut marker and Puddle Of Mudd took over the rock world. The medolic song won them three Billboard Awards for Best Rock Preformence, Modern Rock Artist Of The Year, and Modern Rock Song Of The Year. They also preformed "She Hates Me" live at the show. "Blurry" was nominated for Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards but were beat out by Avril Lavigne. "Blurry" was also nominated for a couple of Muchmusic Video Music Awards but didn't win. Puddle Of Mudd preformed "Blurry" at the show though. In Mrach Scantln was arrested on domestic abuse charges from his fiancee after he was caught having a fight on the side of a highway. They left on $20,000 bail, and were not charged with anything. In April, Puddle Of Mudd were invited on tour with the band that Wes attened the show of to get signed. Korn. They tapped Puddle Of Mudd, and Deadsy for the tour. Deadsy are signed to Korn's label Elementree Reocrds, and Fred Durst directed theier first video. Durst has directed videos for Staind, Cold, Deadsy, and Puddle Of Mudd. As Korn's newest single was launch, Puddle Of Mudd released thier newest single "Drift And Die." The song starts acoustic but then goes into Puddle Of Mudd's distinct alternative, rock sound. Again Fred Durst directed the video. The song was big. It wasn't as dominating as "Blurry" but still got high rotations on rock radio, and MTV. The song was feautered on BigShinyTunes 7 with Filter, Papa Roach, Nickelback, The Vines, Theory Of A Deadman, and more. The previous year "Control" was on BigShinyTunes 6 with Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Blink 182, American Hi-Fi, Sum 41, and more. Puddle Of Mudd took part in the KROQ Weenie Roast with Incubus, Rob Zombie, New Found Glory, P.O.D, Papa Roach, Jimmy Eat World, Moby, System Of A Down, The Strokes, Hoobastank, Something Corperate, and Jack Johnson preforming. Just before Puddle Of Mudd hit the studio to do "Come Clean's" follow-up they released "She Hates Me." The song is more of a punk song, and is about a girl that Wes used to like that hated him. The energetic song was big on rock charts and was highly requested on MTV. It cracked the TRL top ten a few times. Album slaes increased and Puddle Of Mudd were now out doing Limp Bizkit and Durst. The Puddle Of Mudd album is due out in spring this year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
