The Transplants formed in December, 1999 by Tim Armstrong and Rob Aston. Armstrong is also the singer of punk-rock heros Rancid. This was Aston's first band. The band soon wrote a few songs, and soon sent out to find the best drummer they could get. They soon called up Travis Barker and quickly was in on the project. Barker is most well knowen for being in multi-platinum punk-pop supergroup Blink 182. They were soon sogned to Bad Religon's Epithaph label and released "The Transplants" in late 2002. Barker's drum parts were down in five hours when recorded. The Transplants sound was Tim's distinct punk-rock voice, with Aston's reggae/rapper voice, mixed with Barker's heavy hitting drumming. The album deals with a wide range of topics, streching from murder, to partying. The album debuted at #96 Billboard. The trio's first single was relased in spring 2003. "Diamonds, And Guns" is piano-driven, pnuk-rock balled with Armstrong and Aston exchanging verses. The song was a hit on MTV, and on punk and rock radio. It even cracked the Top 20 Modern Rock Chart. The video as directed by Alexander Kosta (Box Car Racer, Alien Crime Syndicate) and Armstrong (Rancid.) The second single was "DJ DJ." The song wasn't as big but also hit the Top 20 Modern Rock Chart. The vidoe was directed by Alexander, and Tim again. The band later played KROQ Weenie Roast alongside Janes Addiction, AFI, Foo Fighters, Sum 41, The Ataris, The Used, Good Charllote, The White Stripes, Lyam Lynch, The Deftones, and Pink. They even did a colaberation with Pink doing "Weigh On My Mind," and a punked up version of Pink's hit "Get The Party Started." Rancid also played the show. After that Tim went back to finishing Rancid's new Major Label Debut record, Travis went to finish Blink 182's new record, and Astons went to record a solo hip-hop record. Rancid also have side-projects coming off them like Lars Fredrickson And The Bastards, and Blink 182 have Barker's third band Box Car Racer, with members of Face To Face.
