The renegade amazon village

Xena senses that Valarian was part of a larger conspiracy. Gabrielle has been chosen as the subject of a royal sacrifice. A nearby band of Renegade Amazons might have some answers, but they all seem to be under a deadly spell...

Sketch: To get closer to the Renegade Amazon queen, Narsus, Xena must unlock the gates by the village. The Amazons have hidden the key out of sight (actually, inside one of the vases near the gates). While trying to find it, Xena must also push off a number of Amazons who want her dead.

Important note: Amazons are trained warriors just like Xena (well, maybe not that good) so it will be slightly harder to defeat them than those bumbleheads who called themselves soldiers of King Valarian. The Amazons always follow Xena around and they're pretty fast, so I haven't listed most of them in this walkthrough, since it depends entirely on where you go to trigger them. But the total amount of Amazons in this level is 25. I suggest you make full use of the magical power-ups in this and other Amazon village levels. Other useful moves include the rolling tumble (run + square) to avoid their blows and boomerangs. Use your armour often. The deadliest weapon against Amazons is the staff, whom you will find scattered across the village. Also, unsuspecting Amazons (that is, those who have their backs turned to you) can be defeated with a single blow.

Important note #2: For this level and the next, apart from yourself, you'll have to look after Gabrielle as well (as if saving her from an ugly Minotaur wasn't enough!). Just a little above your own health bar, you'll see Gabrielle's, which is as long as the health bar of an enemy! Whenever you play this level, make sure Gabrielle is close to you. More than killing Amazons, defending her is your priority because if she comes to die, you'll have to restart the level. If you leave her behind a bit too far back, she'll call for you.

Walkthrough (at last!): Pick up a staff and scroll#1 lying right at your feet. Kill the unaware Amazon ahead. Grab the health power-up between the tree and the hut on the left. When you follow the path along the right curve (after getting the health power-up hidden in a flower bush), you'll see a number of trees and huts on the right. There are two health power-ups between them and another one can be uncovered by kicking into the door of one of the huts. Further in a corner lies a Promethean Blade (next to a tiny waterfall which offers a Frost Biter). At the "other end" of the waterfall, you'll find a little hill with pot boiling over a fire. Next to it are scroll#2 and a health power-up. Now, jump back onto the path and continue till the Y-intersection (you just came out of the right fork). Take the left fork this time. There are huts and trees on both your hands, but you should just turn left. In a far corner are hidden; a Hand of Zeus and the Gate Key, which can be seen be crushing the vase next to the Hand of Zeus. In another corner (further down right, next to the point where the left fork curves to the right) is another vase in which a health power-up is hiding. On your right, you can already spot two Amazons guarding the gates. Dispose of them and unlock the gates. Make your way to the next level.
