Traps of charon
Look before you leap, Xena! The secret of passage through this world is to look all around and to take great care every step of the way. Only the most clever will pass the traps of Charon!
Sketch:
The traps lain by the boatman of the Underworld, Charon, lie between Xena and Hades. She must pass these traps if she wants to get back to the surface world. Another reason to pass the traps is that Xena will need Charon's favour later in the game. The first objective is to stop the flow of a lava fall so that Xena can get through. By making her way through collapsing bridges, she can reach a rectangular platform. This thing can be used to get past the last of Charon's traps. Important note: In this level, you'll encounter various dead souls trying to fight you. There are certain spots from where they keep appearing endlessly, no matter how many of them you kill. So the amount of enemies in this level is subjective. It is best to defeat the ones in your way and ignore the rest.
Walkthrough: Hit the three dead guys with the Chakram. Remember the location of the first lever on the left. Run ahead and get scroll#1. As you do another dead guy will appear ahead. Finish him off with the Chakram. Cross the little bridge ahead and "kill" another dead person showing himself now. See that lava fall ahead? You're going to have to stop its flow to pass the first trap of Charon. Don't cross the half-broken bridge before you. Instead, jump over to the right, on the middle one of three flat rocks. Take a careful running jump onto the patch ahead on which you can see the second lever. Get ready for a timed run. As soon as you slash the lever, three rocks will rise highly near the beginning of the level, forming a path which leads to the first lever you saw right at the beginning. But after a while the rocks will drop back in place. So quickly retrace your steps to the beginning of the lever and now jump over the three high rocks till you're safe. Immediately slash the lever beside you. It will stop the lava flow of the fall and also prevent the three timed rocks from dropping back, so you can safely jump back over them to the bridges. Cross two of them and head to the new area behind the lava fall. Cross the bridge on the right side. On the other end, grab two health power-ups and a Hand of Zeus. The flow of dead men appearing here is never ending, so while avoiding them, get the items and re-cross the bridge till you're back at the safe spot. Head through the narrow rocky passageway. The dead man on the right again has an endless army of brothers, so ignore him. Cross the next bridge quickly before it collapses under your weight. Defeat two dead people and grab two health power-ups, one behind each of the two pillars. Watch out for those nasty bats! Cross three rocks carefully to claim a rare Sword Upgrade and return to the platform with the two pillars. (If you forgot the upgrade here, there's another way to get it, later in the level.) Cross the bridge (this one won't crash). Get the health power-up at the other end, avoid the dead guys. Now that you're here, cross the next bridge (a dangerous one) and get the prize: scroll#2 and a Resurrection Jewel. Jump over to the rectangular platform ahead. Phew! This is a safe spot (except for the bats and the falling stones). Fire the Chakram, aiming it at the lever fastened on the wall before you. The rectangular platform will rotate 45 degrees and clear you way to the exit. If you didn't do it before, get that Sword Upgrade this time, now that you can use the rectangular platform's position to jump on it. Now, after slashing a couple of dead beings ahead (including the new one by the lever, who is vulnerable now), jump over toward the new area(straight across the patch where you fund the Sword Upgrade). Continue till Ares appears all of a sudden to have a chat (?!).
Ares:
"Well, well, Xena. Wake up and smell the sulphur. As much as I'd like to, I can't help you here. You'll have to throw yourself at the mercy of Hades."Xena: "Great! But how do I get there from here?"
(Upon hearing this, Ares disappears.)
Slide down the ramp ahead to get full past all the Traps of Charon.
