Road to hades
To get out of here, Xena must find Hades himself! Only he has the power to send her to the surface world. Unfortunately, each corner here is more dangerous than the last. In this neighbourhood, the dead walk, and even stone comes alive!
Sketch:
To get closer to Hades, it is necessary to open a certain gate. But unfortunately, a gigantic stone Golem is locked just before this gate. Xena must venture through the Underworld, jumping over flat rocks, to find a switch hidden in a corner. While battling the dead souls who try to make her journey difficult, she must hit this switch twice to open the Golem lock and the exit gate. Fighting the Golem is optional.Walkthrough: There are
two dead ones in front of you. While killing them, be careful because sometimes they might seem defeated while they are not. Just keep your eye on their health bars, and don't stop slamming them until the bars are empty. Or go on till they are absorbed by a purple-coloured flame as this indicates their defeat. When the two dead ones are dead,...oh, uhm, sorry, they're already dead! Well,...when they're just..."knock-out", turn around and pick up two health power-ups, one on each side of the Gate of Hades. Proceed further for scroll#1. Jump on the flat rock in front of you and jump again onto one of two other flat rocks. Now, take three well-times running jumps onto the loose rocks, floating on hot lava, to reach one of the safe spots on the other side. Watch out for the flying bats around here, just avoid them as they can't be killed. Jump on till you reach a bigger rock where you can claim a health power-up. From here, take the flat rock slightly to the left from where you can jump onto a strip of land, curved around the corner of the walls. Keep following this strip till you can get another health power-up and a Resurrection Jewel, but only after you've defeated the two dead guys guarding the items. Retrace your steps to the curve around the wall and jump twice onto the floating rocks. Wait till you've reached the area with the fire-spitting gargoyle heads. Time your jumps here or you'll get fried. To jump safely, wait till the gargoyle head in front of you spits a fireball and jump immediately after that. Repeat swiftly until you reach a safe spot. Fight a dead soul and pick up a health power-up. Jump past three more gargoyle heads. Kill the dead man ahead (easy with the Chakram). Jump and collect a health power-up. See the note below on how to get the Armour Upgrade you can see lying ahead on another rock.Go left and jump over a rock patch. From here, try to smack all the
dead people (three in total) lurking on and around the very big, greenish platform with your Chakram. Now, you'll see four flat rocks, aligned in a neat row, which keep rising and falling. You should be able to jump across them safely in one go if you start as soon as the first rock (the left most rock, that is) begins to rise. When you've jumped onto the third rock, quickly get off at the left and tackle
two dead beings. Cross another moving rock and get ready for a fight; seven dead souls will appear randomly. Once they appear, jump back over the moving rock and finish them off with Chakram blows. That's the easiest way I've found. Of course, you can choose to fight them with sword bashes and deadly kicks. Once they're gone, pick up two health power-ups. Hit the lever twice to raise two gates on the torch platform: one releasing a mighty Golem, the other to open the exit gate. Run back to the series of four rise/fall rocks and get back on the third rock. Cross the fourth rock now (on your left hand) to receive a Resurrection Jewel and scroll#2. Defeat the dead guy who appears after that. Jump onto the big green platform and get ready for the stone Golem. If you just want to finish the level, then avoid the Golem and run up the steps to the exit, since it isn't necessary to kill the Golem. But he is a considerable challenge. Here are a few tips on how to kill him without flattening poor Xena.
The tactic here is; run around much, avoid his club. Try to lure the Golem close to the edge of the platform and then slash him a couple of times to make him fall into the lava. The other way to get rid of him is to hit him repeatedly for 3 to 4 seconds and then move away to escape his hard blows. Repeat till his health bar empties.
The Armour Upgrade: To get that
Armour Upgrade (the last one you'll ever find if you've collected the previous three in the game), you'll have to sacrifice some health. But it's definitely worth this rare item when you consider the later, harder levels. You'll have to run or walk over the fire towards the rock the upgrade rests upon. But this barely touches your health, so don't worry. To get onto the fire, do not jump, but just run into the flames. Jumping onto the fire will make Xena land really hard and suck up about 15% of her health. Here's a way to save even more health. Logically speaking, you'll have to run over the fire twice; once to get to the Armour Upgrade and once more to get back to where you came from. But if you can be patient until you've reached the big, greenish platform later in the level, you can jump onto the "Armour Upgrade rock" from there. Now, you'll only have to run over the fire once to retrace your steps back to the green platform. But if you don't want to kill the
Golem, you'll have to be quick about it to avoid him and get the upgrade as well. Get it?Previous level -- Next level -- Walkthrough home -- Site home
