Chapter 2
Megara carried her little egg everywhere she went.  They could not be seperated.  Only once were they apart and it almost cost them both big time.  Megara had to go out to find food, but in order to do so, she had to leave the egg behind.  "It'll be ok...I hope..." She said to herself.  She hated to leave it, but she had to, or she would starve.

She put straw and leaves all over the egg to hide it  from predators and keep it warm.  Unfortunately, Brechin was smarter than most creatures.  He was convinced that he should be the only Haken in the forest, so he was determined to rid his home of this new egg.  Brechin normally was not mean like this, he just had strong feelings about this.  He sneaked into the hidden cave very quietly and looked around. He could not find the little egg anywhere, but he didn't give up.  He finally came to a little spot in the corner, and aroused with curiousity, he moved the straw and leaves. So there it was!  He had not thought to look there before.  He picked up the small egg with his tail and hopped off, leaving no trace of himself behind except for a pile of leaves scattered everywhere.

Brechin bounded through the forest, quite pleased with himself for his cleverness.  Not knowing what to do with this egg, he dropped it in the river.  But instead of crashing to pieces, it just floated off. 'ahh, so that takes care of my Haken problem!' he thinks with a laugh as the egg drifted farther and farther downstream.  Brechin leaped home with an air of satisfaction all around him and he leaped into his bedding and quickly fell asleep.

Not much later, Brechin woke up and he was surprisingly thirsty.  He got up and stretched, and made his way to the edge of a nearby lake.  He splashed his face in the water and shook it all off, feeling quite refreshed.  But what's this?  He looks at a relection in the water, that doesn't seem to want to clear up just yet.  What is that thing?  He is not sure, but he wanted to find out badly.  Just as the ripples cleared up, he doubled back in surprise, his mouth gaping open. There was the egg!  But how did it get there?  He figured it must have snagged on some branches and had not reached the waterfall yet.  But what to do with it?  He wasn't sure now. He couldn't do that again, I mean, who knows what would have happened...It might had rolled back to its original cave!  No, he had to do something else...but what?

Thinking hard, Brechin finally came up with something.  Surely the old fox of the forest would want it!  He loved eggs so much that he often stole them from nests.  Brechin ran to the fox den and noisily laid the egg by the den opening.  Surely the fox would find it here, and make a lovely meal out of it.  Brechin made all sorts of noise to get the fox to come out, but he never time to find it then when he came home to his cozy den.  Brechin left the egg there, and went home...he could not get caught with the egg, no matter what.

The old fox did come home, but he was a little too late.  His mate came home first and she was wrapped around it, keeping it warm.  Instead of wanting to eat the egg, her motherly instincts kicked in and she decided to care for it, much to her mate's surprise, since she was not an egg laying animal.  One day, she was carrying it outside when a coyote came after her, causing her to drop the egg in surprise.  The mother fox made it to the den safely, but the egg rolled down the hill, right back to Brechin's cave.
