Chapter 3 |
When Brechin woke up, he once more found the egg, sitting there, except this time, right in front of his cave! By this time, Brechin was quite worried and he really didn't know what to do! He just had to get rid of this egg, but he didn't know how to do it without it coming back. He wasn't sure if it really was an egg, now, but either way, he had to get rid of it. He paced back and forth for a couple hours, not knowing what quite to do, then he got it! Trika would surely be home soon, so he had to do it fast. Brechin grabbed the egg by the tail and ran (well, jumped) as fast as he could through the forest. He had a long ways to go, and very little time to do it. Soon, he came into a mountain range...just where he wanted. He had made good timing too. He went up the tallest cliff and dropped the egg over the side. Having no time to check on it, he ran back home as fast as he could, and jumped in the cave. He was definitely out of breath by the time Trika came home, but she had not suspected anything. She figured he had gone out for a walk or something. Back at the cliff, had Brechin stayed there, he would have noticed that the egg had not fallen all the way down and he could have fixed that. The egg had falled into a golden eagles nest, and though it was a little small, it still fit in perfectly next to the others. The mother eagle flew back to the nest, but she was not sure. She suspected something was wrong, but the couldn't quite tell. She settled down onto her eggs and fell fast asleep, keeping the eggs warm. Brechin was afraid to open his eyes. He knew that if he did, the egg would be back, and he would be in trouble. One eye opened...all clear. Next the other. Everything was fine, and he sighed happily, going back to sleep. Unfortunately, Brechin couldn't sleep, as Megara came dashing through the entrance, bawling and screaming. "Trika, my egg is missing!" She screamed between tears. She collapsed onto the hard floor. "I have searched everywhere, but I can't find it!" She broke down into tears. "Oh my goodness!" Screamed Trika. She turned to Brechin. "Have you seen her egg lately Brechin?" She asked him. Brechin said no, but inside, he was feeling quite sad and guilty. he shouldn't have done that, and he knew it. He figured that the next morning, he would go in search of the egg. |
