History: Katrina was born in 1879 in rural Ireland during the middle of a ragging snow storm. The instant she entered the world an unusual thing happened, all the snow stopped in mid-air as if time itself stood still until she voiced her first cries two minutes later. Katrina's mother was heavily into mysticism and her practices during pregnancy are attributed in the development of Katrina's own powers. Erin raised her daughter alone as Katrina's father, a farmer and town leader, died in a house fire shortly before her birth. Fortunately, Erin was well respected in the community and had their full help and support while Katrina was growing up.
She was dubbed Ophelia by her mother in homage to Shakespeare and by the age of 13, Katrina's ablities surpassed that of Erin's. It during this point in her life that Katrina began to cast time pockets without conjuring, something that elated and confused her. The first time she held one, she nearly died from being drained. Thomas O'Hara, her best friend, saved her by breaking her concentration. Katrina later married Thomas when she turned 16 and he brought her stateside. Thomas asked her not to be flamboyant with her magical abilities, which she dutifully obeyed out of love and the knowledge that most people would think her a witch.
At the age of 20, Katrina gave birth to Nelissa, but the process nealy killed her. The only thing that saved her was casting a time bubble around herself. However, her life energy began failing fast from maintaing the pocket, so she used her wedding ring as a talisman and shifted the holding power to it. As long as she has the ring she has the ability to stay alive. As a result, her family has had to move around to avert suspicion due to her agelessness. The draw back is, she has seen her husband and child grow old and die, which had a profound affect on her. She has had few relations since Thomas' death in 1925.
Katrina's travels eventually led her to Roberto Da Costa (Reignfire) and the MLF. Not since Thomas had she ever truley loved someone again. On the eve of their engagement, Katrina had her talisman ring stolen from her and thus breaking the precious hold she had on life and her powers. She quickly reverted to the state she was in during child birth and quickly began to bleed to death once more. Since she was a mutant, Reignfire couldn't risk taking her to a hospital and took her back to the MLF island for treatment instead, but they arrived too late. Katrina gave him her last breath with a kiss and passed away in his arms.
Although her physical body is dead, Katrina's spirit still lives on. Inhabitting the mind and body jointly of whoever should happen to wear her talisman ring, as unsuspecting Satine would soon discover. |
