From one side of the world to the other, still sewing. I was born in Scotland and brought up in England where my enjoyment of sewing began starting at Primary school making Christmas hats with the help of my mother. After Secondary school, I started working life as a sample machinist for The Viella Company, which was an obvious career path for me given my love for sewing and textile work. In 1959 I migrated to Australia and worked for Henry Bucks, again sewing. I married, started my own family with four girls and one boy. The interest continued with sewing.
Over the years, I have continually developed and explored new techniques with fabrics and threads, whether it be sewing things for school fetes, calisthenics costumes, and clothes. I also took up patchwork in the 1980's, which introduced me to women with a similar love for sewing and textiles in general. Since then, I have taken part in many classes, experimenting with printing on both paper adn fabric, felting, silk paper making, fabric dyeing and many other techniques to explore textile manipulation and use. This has all culminated in the Stitch and Design course, which has allowed me to develop my creative skills more than ever, forcing me to push the boundaries, to go "Beyond the Selvedge".
