I believe everybody has something creative they do because "they just have to". It may be singing, gardening, painting, community work - any number of things. For me it just happens to be textiles.
For almost as long as I can remember, I have had a needle and thread in my hand. At Primary school, I was knitting and cross stitching gingham. At Secondary school, I made endless embroidery samplers. In my 20' I was stitching in secret (feminists didn' embroider). In my 30's I was making babies and toddlers clothes and dress ups for innumerable children's parties and finally in my 40's, I had the time and found the courage to come to Box Hill and do the Studio Stitch/Textiles course.
I sew because I love it and find I am still exploring the many different mediums that textiles now encompass. It is the creating and the process itself that I enjoy most. I sometimes think stitching is my form of meditation.
