THE THIEF ON THE STAKE OR POLE

PART ONE

Did this thief really go to heaven?  Here are some more scriptures that people use to say you go to heaven when you die, just like the Lazarus and the Rich Man parable.  (SEE STUDY)

Luke 23:32-43

32:

And there were also two others, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

33:

And when they were come to the place, which is called the Skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

34:

Then said Immanuel, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.  And they parted His raiment and cast lots.

35:

And the people stood beholding.  And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself if he be the Messiah, the chosen of Yahweh.

36:

And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,

37:

And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.

38:

And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

39:

And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be the Messiah, save thyself and us.

40:

But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear Yahweh, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41:

And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds:  but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42:

And he said unto Immanuel, Master, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43:

And Immanuel said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

If we look at verse 43, which reads like this:

43.

And Immanuel said unto him, Verily I say unto Thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

It seems Immanuel was telling him that, that same day he would be with him in heaven, but is this true?  Let's see what scriptures really say about this incident.

Matt. 12:40

40:

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

So the grave must be paradise, if this is true.  Because the Messiah went to the grave for 3 days and 3 nights.

John 20:17

17:

Immanuel saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my father:  but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my Mighty One, and to your Mighty One.

By the above verse, the Messiah said he had not yet ascended to heaven, and this took place after the 3 days and 3 nights.

The scriptures did not have punctuations, chapters or verses till sometime during the Middle Ages.  Robert Estienne, a French printer, is given credit for verse divisions in his Greek Testament of 1551.  Stephen Langston put chapters in the Latin Vulgate in 1228.  A Dominican monk, Paginus of Lucca, is credited with our present verse division of the Old Covenant.  He used this verse system in his translation which was printed in Latin in 1527.

To make Luke 23:43 go with scripture, you must move the comma as shown in this verse.

43.

And Immanuel said unto him, Verily I say unto Thee Today, shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Notice the comma is moved from after THEE to after TODAY.

So the Messiah that day was telling him, he would be with him in paradise.  Not that he would be with him that very day in paradise.

Next is a few more examples of no comma or put in the wrong place.

1 Cor. 15:23

23:

But every man  in his own order:  the Messiah, the firstfruits; afterward they that are the Messiah's at his coming.

A comma goes between MESSIAH and FIRSTFRUITS since he is only one and would be the firstfruit of those that slept.  (SEE the study on the FIRST 144,000).

Acts 19:12

12:

So that from his body were brought unto the sick, handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them and the evil spirits went out of them.

A comma goes between SICK and HANDKERCHIEFS, unless you have seen sick handkerchiefs before.

Immanuel was risen on the seventh (7th) day Sabbath, not the first (1st) day of the week like people are taught.  By putting the comma after risen it makes this scripture harmonize with the others.

Mark 16:9

9:

Now when Immanuel was risen, early the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Just remember, man put in the punctuations and one little comma can change the whole meaning of a verse.  Scriptures must stay in harmony with each other.

The thief went to the grave not heaven.
