| IMPORTANT CONTACT NUMBERS FOR DIVING EMERGENCY IN MALAYSIA Recompression Facilities and Hyperbaric Medicine The nearest recompression facility to Perhentian Island is the Kuantan Naval Base about 2 hours drive south of Kuala Besut. The treatment facility is mostly catered for armed forces use and I was told that treatment for civilians may be limited. The other option is the Armed Forces Hospital in Lumut, Perak about 10 hours drive from Kuala Besut. Although it is further away from Kuantan, it is the centre of the Institute of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine (IUHM) in Malaysia and serves as the best recompression facility in the country as well as the national office for Divers Alert Network (DAN) South East Asia Pacific. Alternatively, The Centre for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine offers recompression treatment as well. |
